Tijuana surpasses Cancún in the bid to host two national tournaments of the Mexican Federation of American Football (FMFA).
During the Annual Ordinary Assembly of the FMFA, held on February 15 in Mexico City, Tijuana won the majority vote over Cancún to become the host city for two prestigious national American football tournaments.
The efforts of Luis Jesús Romero Pérez, president of the State Association of American Football of Baja California (AEFA BC), played a crucial role in securing this recognition, along with the coordinated efforts of the Tijuana Tourism and Conventions Committee (Cotuco).
Dr. Karim Chalita Rodríguez, president of Cotuco, emphasized that despite competing against a renowned beach destination like Cancún, Tijuana stood out due to its modern infrastructure, strategic connectivity, and vibrant regional attractions.
“Tijuana offers a dynamic and evolving tourist experience that attracts both national and international visitors, whether for business or leisure,” Chalita Rodríguez stated.
The tournaments are expected to bring in approximately 1,000 visitors, generating an economic impact exceeding 22 million pesos. Additionally, Chalita Rodríguez highlighted that Tijuana has positioned itself in recent years as a competitive destination for hosting major national and international events, rivaling cities like Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City.
Event Details
The 8th National U17 Championship and the 4th National U19 Championship of the FMFA will take place from July 25 to 27 at Cetys Universidad, Universidad Xochicalco, and Colegio de Bachilleres Nueva Tijuana.
Cotuco aims to strengthen Tijuana’s appeal as a premier host city by continuing to attract events, expos, and conferences through collaboration with local and state authorities, as well as tourism organizations.
With this achievement, Tijuana solidifies its status as a top-tier sports and events destination, further boosting its tourism and economic growth.
